Barcelona captain ter Stegen returns to squad for El Clasico final

Barcelona goalkeeper taken off with heavy injury

    Key Takeaways:

  • Barcelona will miss Robert Lewandowski, Alejandro Balde, Marc Casado and Marc Bernal for the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid
  • Eduardo Camavinga will miss the remainder of the season after suffering an injury in Real Madrid’s last match
  • Eder Militao and Daniel Carvajal remain unavailable for Real Madrid due to long-term injuries

The biggest news for Barcelona ahead of the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid is the return of Marc-Andre ter Stegen to the squad after a lengthy injury layoff. The German goalkeeper is included in the 22-man list announced by Hansi Flick, marking his first appearance in the squad since suffering a serious right knee injury back in September during the 5-1 win over Villarreal. However, Wojciech Szczesny is still expected to start in Saturday’s El Clasico final, with Ter Stegen available only in case of emergency for the remaining matches this season.

Barcelona will be without four players for the clash at La Cartuja in Seville. Marc Bernal, Robert Lewandowski, Marc Casado and Alejandro Balde are all sidelined due to injuries and will not take part in the final.

On the Real Madrid side, the team is also dealing with significant absences. Eduardo Camavinga suffered an injury during their last match and will miss the rest of the season. Ferland Mendy, meanwhile, has trained at full intensity for several days and is reportedly fully fit ahead of the final.

David Alaba, who also had to leave Real Madrid’s most recent game due to a knock, is expected to be part of the squad traveling to Seville. Meanwhile, the long-term absentees Eder Militao and Daniel Carvajal will definitely miss the showdown against Barcelona.

Additionally, Jude Bellingham will undergo surgery, although the timing is yet to be decided. Some at Valdebebas believe it could take place after the Club World Cup, but no final decision has been made.
