Jamie Vardy, the emblem of Leicester City over the past 13 years, has announced that he will leave the club at the end of the current season. The “Foxes” were officially relegated a few days ago after a loss to Liverpool, and today the 38-year-old forward shared the news in an emotional video message.

The 38-year-old Englishman has made 496 appearances and scored 198 goals for Leicester, having joined from Fleetwood Town in 2012 for £1 million. In 2016, he famously helped the team win the Premier League title, and later reached the Champions League quarter-finals with the club. In 2021, he lifted both the FA Cup and the Community Shield.

Vardy also won the Premier League Golden Boot in 2019/20 and was named Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year in 2015/16. He was a four-time Premier League Player of the Month and reached 100 top-flight goals faster than Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku. Notably, he remains the only player to have scored in 11 consecutive Premier League matches, a record he set between August and November 2015.

His contract with Leicester expires on 30 June, after which he will become a free agent. If Vardy features in four of the club’s remaining five matches this season, he will reach the landmark of 500 appearances for the Foxes.
