Manchester United pondering Aaron Ramsdale move

Manchester United goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir

    Key Takeaways:

  • Manchester United may shift focus to signing a new goalkeeper due to ongoing errors by Onana and Bayındır
  • Aaron Ramsdale has emerged as a possible target, with West Ham also interested
  • Manchester United hope to sell Onana to Saudi Arabia, though the goalkeeper wants to stay and prove himself

Although the goalkeeper position was not previously among Manchester United’s top priorities for the summer transfer window, the ongoing errors by André Onana and his backup Altay Bayındır will likely push the club’s management to seek a new long-term solution for the crucial role. British media report that the club may turn to former Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The Englishman is expected to leave Southampton this summer, following the club’s official relegation from the Premier League. West Ham are also reportedly interested in him.

Ramsdale played a total of 89 matches for Arsenal in all competitions, conceding 99 goals and keeping 32 clean sheets. In 177 Premier League appearances with Southampton, Bournemouth, Sheffield United, and Arsenal, he has allowed 269 goals and recorded 40 clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Manchester United are hoping to sell Onana for a good price to a club in Saudi Arabia. There is interest, but according to The Sun, Onana himself is unwilling to leave the Red Devils, as he is determined to overcome his struggles and prove his critics wrong.

Rúben Amorim left Onana out of the squad for the away match against Newcastle, following his costly mistakes in the first-leg quarterfinal against Lyon in the Europa League. However, Altay Bayındır also looked far from convincing at St James’ Park and was directly at fault for conceding the fourth goal.
