Semenyo strikes early to secure Bournemouth’s first win in seven games

Antoine Semenyo opens the score just seconds into the match with Fulham

    Key Takeaways:

  • Bournemouth ended a six-game Premier League winless streak with a 1–0 win over Fulham
  • Antoine Semenyo scored in the first minute after a defensive error
  • Bournemouth moved into eighth place, level on points with Fulham and Brighton

Bournemouth ended their run of six matches without a win in the Premier League, a streak that also included elimination from the FA Cup. The Cherries defeated visiting Fulham 1–0 and displaced the Cottagers from eighth place in the standings. Both teams now have 48 points, the same as Brighton.

Antoine Semenyo scored in the very first minute to secure the victory for the home side. Andoni Iraola’s team will now look to finish in the top eight, which should be enough to earn a Europa Conference League spot—unless Crystal Palace go on to win the FA Cup.

Semenyo scored just 53 seconds into the match after a quick counter-attack and a glaring mistake in Fulham’s defence. The Ghanaian broke into the penalty area and beat Bernd Leno with a precise finish. In the 17th minute, Evanilson came close to adding a second for Bournemouth but hit the crossbar. It was the 21st time this season that a Cherries player had been denied by the woodwork—more than any other team in the Premier League.

Midway through the first half, Rodrigo Muniz missed a clear-cut chance for Fulham, and shortly before the break, Ryan Sessegnon fired straight into the hands of Kepa Arrizabalaga from a promising position.

In the second half, the visitors continued to press for an equaliser, and manager Marco Silva became increasingly agitated. His angriest moment came in the 57th minute when he made a triple substitution but accidentally took off Sessegnon, even though he had intended to replace another player.

Bournemouth showed resilience in the closing minutes and held on to secure the win. In the next round, the team from the Vitality Stadium will face Crystal Palace, while Fulham are set for a London derby against Chelsea.
