The match delivered both the usual heated derby atmosphere and moments of high-quality football. Betis, clearly the side in better form, recorded their sixth straight league victory and extended their unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.
The hosts dominated the first half and managed the second period with composure, preventing Sevilla from threatening Adrian’s goal. Sevilla focused on counter-attacks and succeeded with one. Dodi Lukebakio controlled the ball and played a clever assist to Ruben Vargas, who slipped between Betis’ central defenders to beat Adrian for 0:1.
Betis didn’t falter and equalized in the 25th minute with a beautifully constructed attack. It came from the left wing, where Youssouf Sabaly’s soft cross found Johnny Cardoso, who struck a volley directly into the net. Just before half-time, Isco provided a sublime one-touch pass to the sprinting Cucho Hernandez, who calmly scored to complete the comeback.
Chances were fewer in the second half. Sevilla pushed, looking for a draw in the final 15 minutes, but Garcia Pimienta’s substitutions had little effect. Only a few scrambles troubled Betis’ defence, but Adrian and his backline were solid to secure the win.
