Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals after a 2-1 victory over Lille in France, progressing with a 3-2 aggregate win. The German side will now face Barcelona in the next round.

The match started in the best possible way for Lille, who took the lead in the fifth minute through Jonathan David. Karim Adeyemi lost possession in midfield, allowing Ismaily to surge forward and deliver a pass to David. The Canadian striker’s shot was not particularly powerful, but Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel let the ball slip through his hands and legs, giving the hosts an early advantage. The German side struggled to respond immediately, showing signs of nervousness with frequent misplaced passes.

As the first half progressed, the visitors gradually regained composure and created several dangerous situations. After the half-time break, Borussia Dortmund took control and mounted a comeback. Their captain Emre Can equalised in the 54th minute from the penalty spot after Serhou Guirassy went down in the box following a push from Thomas Meunier.

The comeback was completed in the 65th minute when Maximilian Beier received a pass from Guirassy and struck a precise shot past Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier. BVB continued to dominate and prevented the home side from regaining momentum. Lille created a few late chances, the best of which fell to David in the 79th minute, but his shot went straight into Kobel’s arms.

Despite Lille’s late push, Borussia’s defence held firm to seal the victory. The German side will now prepare for a quarter-final clash against Barcelona, looking to extend their European campaign further.
