Liverpool stun PSG with 1-0 victory in Paris

Liverpool's goalkeeper Alisson saves a shot from a PSG player

    Key Takeaways:

  • Liverpool secured a 1-0 win against Paris Saint-Germain at Parc des Princes
  • Alisson Becker’s crucial saves denied PSG despite their 27 shots
  • Harvey Elliott scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute

Liverpool left Paris satisfied after the Premier League leaders defeated Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 at the Parc des Princes. The hosts outplayed the Merseysiders in a way no one had managed this season, but they failed to convert any of their 27 shots, ten of which were on target. A major reason for this was Alisson Becker, who made more than half a dozen crucial saves and deservedly was announced as the player of the match. On one occasion, Kvicha Kvaratskhelia got past him, but the goal was disallowed due to a tight offside call.

VAR had another significant intervention in the first half when it reviewed a potential red card for Ibrahima Konate, but the Frenchman escaped punishment despite appearing to commit a foul as the last defender. Then came the 87th minute, when Harvey Elliott secured a shock victory for Liverpool with an assist from Darwin Nunez. The return leg will take place in a week at Anfield.
The winner of this tie will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the next round.
