It has now been revealed that Leipzig and PSG had planned this permanent transfer 18 months ago, but the move was delayed due to a clause in Simons’ contract with PSV Eindhoven. The clause gave PSV the right to claim 100% of the transfer fee if Simons was sold, forcing both clubs to wait until it expired this month before finalizing the deal. This transfer will also allow PSG to loan Milan Skriniar to Fenerbahce, as Simons’ permanent move reduces the number of outgoing loan deals currently on the French club’s books.
The 21-year-old Dutch international joined RB Leipzig on loan in the summer of 2023 and has since played 60 matches, recording 15 goals and 19 assists. In contrast, his time at PSG’s first team was limited to just 11 appearances, where he managed only one assist.
