While Manchester City fans awaited announcements regarding new signings, the club delivered unexpected news: Erling Haaland has signed a new long-term contract. The Norwegian striker has committed to staying with the club until the summer of 2034, marking one of the longest deals in modern football.

Haaland’s previous contract, set to expire in 2027, included a €175 million release clause that worried City’s management. The new agreement reportedly eliminates this clause, though journalist Fabrizio Romano notes a replacement clause will be in effect from 2029 at a much higher valuation. Haaland’s salary has also been increased to a club-record €24 million net per season, highlighting his status as a cornerstone of City’s success.

Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for €60 million, Haaland has scored an impressive 111 goals in 126 appearances. His contributions have been instrumental in the club’s domestic and European campaigns, making this new deal a priority for City’s management.

In addition to securing Haaland’s future, Manchester City is set to strengthen its defensive lineup. Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov are about to complete their medical tests today and are poised to join the squad with immediate effect.
