Rodri more than happy with Guardiola’s extension, calls Real Madrid best club in history, and ranks Messi over Ronaldo

Rodri expressed his enthusiasm over Pep Guardiola’s contract extension at Manchester City, calling it “Аmazing news”. He highlighted the significance of Guardiola’s continued leadership for the club and shared his happiness about working with the manager in the coming seasons.

The Ballon d’Or winner provided an update on his injury recovery, revealing his plan to return to action in June or July. He expressed optimism about participating in the Nations League and the Club World Cup, aiming to rejoin Manchester City and Spain for key fixtures later this season.

Discussing a potential move to Real Madrid, Rodri acknowledged the honour of being linked with the club. He stated, “When Real Madrid call you, the best club in history and the most successful, it makes you proud, and you always have to listen.”

Rodri also paid tribute to Toni Kroos, praising the German midfielder for retiring on his own terms. “Hats off to Toni Kroos” Rodri said, noting Kroos’s decision to leave professional football while still at his peak rather than being forced out by declining performances. The Manchester City midfielder acknowledged the possibility of finishing his career in England, calling Manchester City a “fantastic club” and expressing his love for English football. However, he added, “But Spain is my country and I keep following everything, La Liga, the clubs” signaling his deep connection to his homeland, where he continues to closely follow the teams and the championship.

Rodri also reflected on facing two of football’s greatest players, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. He credited Ronaldo’s remarkable work ethic, saying, “Cristiano Ronaldo was able to match Lionel Messi without any natural talent, but as players who faced them both, we know the difference.” Rodri elaborated on the contrast between the two, explaining, “With Cristiano, we didn’t want him to enter the box because he was deadly there. But with Messi, he would be dangerous with getting the ball anywhere on the pitch” highlighting the unique threat posed by the Argentinian magician.
