Matts Hummels was once again an unused substitute in Roma’s narrow 1-0 Europa League victory over Dynamo Kyiv on Thursday. The 35-year-old German defender, who joined the Italian club on a free transfer this summer, has yet to make his debut, having not played a single minute on the field so far this season.

It was the seventh game in a row that Hummels found himself on the bench, sparking curiosity about his situation. Despite his proven quality and reputation, especially after an impressive season last year where he was one of the best defenders in the Champions League and helped Borussia Dortmund reach the final, he remains sidelined.
After the match against Dynamo Kyiv, Hummels stayed composed, taking to social media to express his gratitude: “Thank you Roma fans for the love!”
When asked about Hummels’ lack of playing time, Roma manager Ivan Juric addressed the situation: “It’s my responsibility, I see him as a backup option for Ndicka, he will have his chances.”
