Inter targets an iconic name synonymous with success at rivals AC Milan

Reports from Italy suggest that Inter are interested in signing Daniele Maldini, the heir of the legendary football family connected to AC Milan. Both his father, Paolo Maldini, and his grandfather, Cesare Maldini, became synonymous with success at AC Milan, which makes Inter’s interest in the young forward particularly controversial.

Despite the potential for fan backlash due to the Maldini name being closely tied to their city rivals, Inter appears unfazed. The club is reportedly intrigued by Daniele’s versatility, attacking qualities, and young age. At just 22 years old, he is seen as a valuable prospect. Sporting Director Piero Ausilio personally scouted Maldini during Monza’s recent match against Roma, adding weight to the rumours. While no official negotiations have begun, Inter sees him as a possible target for the upcoming transfer windows.

Unlike his father and grandfather, both of whom spent their entire illustrious careers at AC Milan, Daniele did not follow the same trajectory after his early years with the Rossoneri youth teams. Instead, after struggling to break into the first team at the San Siro, he was sold to Monza, where his development has been much more noticeable.

Daniele’s growth has even earned him a call-up to Italy’s national team, though he is still waiting to make his debut. He was an unused substitute in Italy’s 2-2 draw against Belgium yesterday. Maldini spoke about the emotional experience of being at Coverciamo, Italy’s training base, where photos of his father and grandfather are displayed: “Walking into Coverciamo and seeing photos of my father and grandfather is a beautiful feeling.”
