Enzo Maresca discusses injuries and reveals Chelsea’s attacking options ahead of West Ham derby

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has provided updates on key players ahead of the team’s upcoming London derby against West Ham. Reece James, who has been sidelined with an injury, remains unavailable, and Maresca confirmed that his recovery has been slower than expected. “Reece James is still out, and his recovery is a bit delayed” Maresca said. “The most important thing is that they come back when they are 100% fit. Reece is still not available.”

When asked about a possible timeline for James’ return, Maresca was unable to provide a clear answer. “No, unfortunately, we don’t have an idea at the moment on when he will return” he admitted. The Blues will also be without Malo Gusto, who is not yet fit to play, leaving both right-backs unavailable for selection.

Despite the setbacks, Maresca expressed his satisfaction with Jadon Sancho’s progress, praising the winger’s hard work since joining the club. “Since he arrived here, Jadon Sancho is working hard on and off the ball” the Italian manager said.

The 44-year old specialist also clarified the positions of his attacking lineup, giving insight into Chelsea’s front-line structure. “As left wingers, we have Jadon and Misha. As right wingers, we have Noni and Pedro. As a ten, we have Cole and Joao. As a nine, we have Nkunku and Nico. The squad is quite clear in terms of positions.” Maresca explained.

Chelsea currently sit 8th in the Premier League standings, having collected 7 points from their first 4 matches. They face West Ham on Saturday in what promises to be a highly competitive London derby.
