Zidane cites language barrier as main stumbling block for Manchester United job

The speculation around Zinedine Zidane potentially managing Manchester United has been ever growing, but the legendary Frenchman himself has highlighted a key challenge: his command of the English language. In a recent interview, Zidane shared, “Would I want to go to Manchester United? I understand English, but I’m not completely fluent in it. I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work in a different way.”

Zidane emphasized that winning requires more than just footballing tactics, saying, “Many elements come into play in order to win, it is a global context. I know what I need to win.” His approach clearly sets him apart, as he remains the only manager in football history to win the Champions League in consecutive seasons, leading Real Madrid to three straight titles between 2016 and 2018.

Despite being without a managerial role since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, Zidane’s name continues to be linked with top clubs, including Manchester United. The Red Devils’ manager Erik Ten Hag has faced growing pressure, with fans calling for his departure. However, the club’s board has so far kept faith in the Dutchman.

Though Zidane remains one of the most sought after managers in the world, it seems that language barriers may prevent him from stepping into the Manchester United dugout anytime soon.
