Thibaut Courtois has made the decision to step away from international duty with Belgium, citing a lack of confidence in the national team’s head coach, Domenico Tedesco. This decision comes after Courtois was left out of Belgium’s squad for Euro 2024, where the team was eliminated in the round of 16. Despite his absence from the national team, Courtois was a key player for Real Madrid in their Champions League final victory against Borussia Dortmund.
I want to address the Belgian fans and supporters of our national team.
I feel immense love and pride in representing my country on the pitch, as well as every one of you who supports the Red Devils. I feel privileged to have had the honor of wearing the national jersey. Not… pic.twitter.com/BD4YP09wxs

Courtois, who has represented Belgium on 102 occasions, shared his thoughts on social media, expressing his deep pride in having worn the national jersey more than 100 times. However, he also explained that after much reflection and in light of recent events with the coach, he could no longer contribute positively to the team under Tedesco’s management. Courtois emphasized that his decision, while difficult, was made in the best interest of the national team, allowing them to move forward and focus on their future goals.
