Galatasaray experienced a devastating 5-0 defeat against their local rivals Besiktas in the Turkiye Super Cup on Saturday. The match started disastrously for Galatasaray as they conceded the opening goal just 20 seconds into the game due to a blunder by Victor Nelsson. The Denmark defender’s night went from bad to worse when he was shown a straight red card in the 87th minute, with the score still 3-0 in Besiktas’ favour.

In response to the poor start to the season, Galatasaray moved quickly to strengthen their squad. Today, the club announced the signing of 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Sara from Norwich. The deal is reportedly worth €18 million, to be paid over nine equal installments spread over three seasons, as confirmed by the Turkish club.
Gabriel Sara leaves Carrow Road after an impressive stint with Norwich, where he registered 21 goals and 17 assists in 96 appearances. The transfer fee makes him the most expensive player in Galatasaray’s history, surpassing previous record signings such as Mario Jardel (€17 million) and Nicolo Zaniolo (€15 million).
