As Brazil gears up to begin its participation in the Copa América on June 24 against Costa Rica, former football superstar Ronaldinho has expressed his profound disappointment with the current state of the national team. Initially, he did not hold back in his critique of the squad and their recent performances.
“That’s it guys, I will not watch any Brazil game at the Copa América nor celebrate any victory” Ronaldinho stated. “It’s one of the worst teams in recent years, no respectable leaders, only average players for the majority. Our performance has been one of the worst things I’ve ever seen, it’s such a shame.”

Ronaldinho spoke out after the five-time World Champions finished in a 1-1 draw against Mexico in a friendly match. Brazil currently sits in 6th position in the World Cup qualifications in South America, having collected just 7 points from the opening 6 matches. They have lost each of their last three competitive outings and are winless in four official meetings.
However, Ronaldinho later clarified his statements, aiming to motivate both the team and its supporters. “I said that to get a reaction from everyone… I’m going to support Brazil like never before, of course I’m supporting them! Brazil needs this support, the young players have a lot of talent and they are in need of support from Brazilian people. It’s Copa America now and we can come back with a trophy.”
Teaming up with Rexona for a commercial campaign, Ronaldinho is trying to galvanize support for the national team. “We will create this massive chain of support for Brazil” he announced.
