Daniel Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored after the break for Real, with the Brazilian’s goal being his second in a Champions League final, thus becoming the youngest player in the history of the competition to score in two separate finals, eclipsing none other than Lionel Messi.

Borussia Dortmund had the better chances in the first half but failed to capitalize on them. At the break, Ancelotti made some minor tweaks and Real dominated the proceedings. The match was the last in club football for Toni Kroos, who, alongside Carvajal, Modric, and Nacho, lifted their sixth Champions League trophy, equaling the long-standing record of another Real legend, Paco Gento. As for Borussia Dortmund, they lost in the Champions League final for the second time in the English capital, having been defeated 2-1 by Bayern Munich in 2013. Marco Reus, who entered the field in the 72nd minute, played for the last time in BVB’s colours, having announced his decision to leave as a free agent at the end of the season after 12 seasons with the club.
