Manchester United survive to book an all-Manchester FA Cup final at Wembley

The two Manchester giants – City and United have qualified for the FA Cup final and will meet at Wembley on 25th of May for their last game of the 2023/24 season. Pep Guardiola’s team faced Chelsea on Saturday and prevailed via slender 1:0 score. City who were eliminated from the Champions League at midweek were without Erling Haaland in that clash, with the Norwegian suffering from an injury. Bernardo Silva. who missed one of City’s penalties against Real Madrid redeemed himself by scoring the only goal against Chelsea in the 84th minute to send his team to the final.

The other semi-final meeting between Coventry City and Manchester United offered plenty of dramatic moments. The Red Devils were cruising, going for the break 0:2 up and added a third shortly after in the 58th minute, only to see how Coventry who are part of the Championship (England’s 2nd tier) storm back into the match. They scored in the 71st and 79th minute to put the pressure on United’s players for the final stage of the match and were rewarded deep into stoppage time, as Aaron Wan-Bissaka hit the ball with his hand in the penalty box. The resulting penalty was turned into a goal by Haji Wright and game had to enter extra-time. There the Red Devils were the more active side, throwing everything at their rivals in an attempt to avoid a penalty shoot-out. United were aggressive and had several opportunities, but the Coventry fans errupted in the 121 minute of the clash as their team scored after a speedy counter-attack which caught the United defence off guard. Much to the relief of the Red Devils players and supporters, the goal was ruled out for off-side and the winner had to be decided on penalties. Casemiro began with a miss, but each of the following takers for Manchester Untied were accurate and Rasmus Hojlund sealed the victory with their 5th strike from the spot.
