Barcelona’s 33-year-old left-back Marcos Alonso will leave the team when his current contract expires at the end of June. Fabrizio Romano reports that the decision to part ways has already been made, with the club and player demonstrating mutual respect during talks.
Alonso joined Barça from Chelsea in 2022 on a free transfer and has played 44 matches in all tournaments so far. However, the current campaign has seen Alonso’s playing time limited, with just 299 minutes of football distributed across 7 games.

Marcos Alonso comes from a family with a rich football history. His grandfather, Marcos Alonso Imaz, known as “Marquitos” was a legendary Spanish footballer who played as a defender for Real Madrid during the 1950s and 1960s. Marquitos was part of the iconic Real Madrid team that won five European Cups in a row from 1956 to 1960.
Marcos Alonso’s father, Marcos Alonso Pena, also had a successful career. He played as a midfielder for several clubs in Spain, including Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Following in his father’s footsteps, Marcos Alonso Jr. began his journey in the youth ranks of Real Madrid before eventually making his professional debut with Real Madrid Castilla and also recorded 1 appearance for Real Madrid’s senior side.
After spells with Bolton and Fiorentina, Marcos Alonso joined Chelsea in 2016, where he established himself as a key player. He has represented the Spanish national team on 9 occasions, debuting in March 2018.
