Fenerbahce at crossroads: Club meeting to take place amid fan violence backlash

The significant incident in Turkiye, where fans of Trabzonspor invaded the pitch and attacked the players of Fenerbahce after the final whistle in a 2-3 home defeat, may result in Fenerbahce leaving the Super Lig. The club has threatened to take such actions, and today it will hold an Extraordinary General Assembly meeting where the club President Ali Koc will ask all members to vote on what measures to take. Leaving the Turkish Super Lig is an option according to various reports. The club can join another European league, with the Italian Serie A, the Dutch Eredivisie, and others being touted among the candidates.

The Istanbul-based outfit won its last domestic title in 2014 and currently occupies the 2nd spot in the standings, two points behind league-leaders Galatasaray. The next week will be intense for the club and all its supporters. Besides the off-field scandals, Fenerbahce is set to face Adana Demirspor on Wednesday, while on Sunday they are scheduled to meet their biggest rivals, Galatasaray, in the Turkish Super Cup final. Immediately after, the Fenerbahce players will have to switch focus to European football as they visit Olympiacos for the 1st leg of the quarter-final battle in the Europa Conference League.
