The only shot in the first 20 minutes came from Matteo Darmian, whose diagonal effort from a tight angle went wide. Nevertheless, Inter looked the more dangerous in attack early on, with Federico Dimarco rattling the crossbar with a strike in the 22nd minute. In the 33rd minute, Lautaro Martínez fired from a good position, but the shot was disappointing.
Milan, however, managed to open the scoring with their first shot on target. That came in the 36th minute, when Jovic found the net with a header after a cross from Alejandro Jimenez. In the following minutes, Bisseck and Henrikh Mkhitaryan made unsuccessful attempts to equalise as their shots went wide. The second half started superbly for Milan, who doubled their lead in the 49th minute. In the 63rd minute, Pavlovic missed a chance to extend Milan’s lead with a header from a corner. In the 66th, Lautaro finally produced a shot on target, but it ended in the hands of Maignan. Inter substitutes Marko Arnautovic and Hakan Calhanoglu also failed to score.
Conceicao’s players took advantage of those misses and scored a third goal in the 86th minute, when Reijnders struck a low diagonal shot after an assist from Leão.
