Real Madrid has been awarded the prestigious Laureus World Team of the Year title, topping a strong list of nominees that included the Barcelona women’s team, the Boston Celtics, McLaren Formula 1, Spain’s men’s national football team, and Team USA’s men’s basketball squad. The award recognises the club’s stunning 2024 campaign, during which Carlo Ancelotti’s side captured five major trophies: the Champions League, La Liga, the Spanish and European Super Cups, and the Intercontinental Cup.
The club was represented at the Laureus gala by Florentino Pérez, Emilio Butragueño, Pirri, Dani Carvajal, and Luka Modrić. The award was handed over by tennis legend Rafael Nadal to Real Madrid’s two captains.

“I want to thank Laureus on behalf of Real Madrid. Our club is proud to receive this prestigious award. I believe we had a fantastic season, winning many trophies and delivering great performances on the pitch. We reached the highest peaks last season,” said Modrić.
“You have to stand up when you get knocked down like we did in the Champions League. We have a big challenge ahead on Saturday with another final and the league still in play. We need to step up and show the badge we wear on our chest,” added Carvajal.
Real Madrid’s incredible run in 2024 began on 14 January with a 4–1 victory over Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. They went on to secure the La Liga title on 4 May, losing just once all season. On 1 June, the club lifted their 15th European Cup after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2–0 at Wembley. The fourth title of the year came on 14 August with the UEFA Super Cup, and the campaign ended with Intercontinental Cup success on 18 December against Pachuca (3–0).
“This was another historic year for Real Madrid. Five football titles and three more in basketball. We are living in a golden era, with 57 titles won in 14 years,” club president Florentino Pérez said in December.
