- Thomas Müller played his final Champions League match for Bayern Munich in the 2:2 draw at Inter
- The veteran forward has equalled Lionel Messi with 163 Champions League appearances
- His contract will not be renewed, and he has yet to decide his next move
Key Takeaways:
Thomas Müller has said he has no plans for the future after what may have been his final Champions League appearance in Bayern Munich colours. The 35-year-old featured in the 2:2 draw against Inter in Milan, but the result wasn’t enough to carry the team to the final in their home city. Bayern were knocked out in the quarter-finals with a 4:3 aggregate defeat, ending hopes of a showpiece return to the Allianz Arena on 31 May.
Even if it wasn’t his last match in the Champions League overall, it was certainly his last for the club he has represented for 25 years. The legendary forward reached 163 appearances in the competition, drawing level with Lionel Messi for third place on the all-time list.

“I still don’t know what my plans are. I haven’t made any progress during the hectic past few weeks. We’ve got a match against Heidenheim in two days. It’s tough, but that’s how it is,” Müller told DAZN.
He admitted the mood in the dressing room was sombre:
“We are disappointed. I gave it everything I had, we all did. We played against the best team in Italy, who had only conceded two goals in the Champions League before facing us.”
Despite the elimination, Müller praised the commitment of his teammates and the energy shown on the pitch:
“I saw players who fought on the pitch and showed great energy. The fans saw that we gave it our all. It’s a shame for them, because the final is in Munich — but the Champions League is not something you can simply wish for.”
At full time, Bayern’s travelling fans chanted Müller’s name in emotional scenes. In response, he repeatedly patted the club badge on his chest, visibly moved by the gesture.
Müller’s contract will not be extended at the end of the season, and for now, his next step remains uncertain. Bayern, meanwhile, will shift their full focus to the Bundesliga title race, where they currently hold a six-point lead over reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen with five matches to go.
