Ja Morant guarding Anthony Edwards

    Key Takeaways:

  • Minnesota Timberwolves beat Memphis Grizzlies 141:125 with a franchise-record 52-point third quarter
  • Anthony Edwards led the charge with 44 points, 7 threes, and standout leadership
  • Both teams now sit at 47–33 as the fight for direct playoff spots in the Western Conference intensifies

The Minnesota Timberwolves returned to winning ways in the NBA and continue to dream of direct playoff qualification following another outstanding performance from Anthony Edwards. Chris Finch’s team dismantled the Memphis Grizzlies 141:125 in a game played at FedEx Forum. The first half gave no indication of such a result, but in the third quarter, the Timberwolves exploded with 52 points — a franchise record for points in a single quarter — and blew away any intrigue against Tuomas Iisalo’s squad, snapping Memphis’ three-game winning streak.

The Minneapolis team now sits sixth in the Western Conference standings with a 47–33 record, the same as the Grizzlies, who currently hold the seventh spot. In less than 24 hours, Minnesota will host the Brooklyn Nets, while Memphis will travel to face the Denver Nuggets.

Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle came out firing, and the visitors wasted no time taking the lead. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane worked to level the score, but Edwards continued his scoring recital and helped the Timberwolves take a six-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Edwards stayed in full flow in the early moments of the second quarter. That didn’t stop Jaren Jackson Jr., Ja Morant, and Bane from inspiring the home team to a full comeback, going into the main break with a 72:67 lead. The narrative changed completely after the restart, when Edwards and Randle gave the Grizzlies defence all sorts of problems on the way to a double-digit advantage. By the end of the penultimate period, the Grizzlies had no answer, and the away side had built a 20-point cushion. In the final quarter, the Timberwolves only consolidated their dominance.

Anthony Edwards once again proved to be the leader for Minnesota, finishing with 44 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 three-pointers. Julius Randle ended the night with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Naz Reid contributed 14 points and 6 rebounds, Rudy Gobert added 13 and 8 boards, while Jaden McDaniels and Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 10 apiece.

Ja Morant answered with 36 points, 6 assists, and 5 threes, Desmond Bane registered 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists and Jaren Jackson Jr. poured in 23 points for Memphis.
