Aston Villa advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after a commanding 3-0 victory in the second leg against Club Brugge. The Villans progressed with a dominant 6-1 aggregate score, having secured a 3-1 win in the first leg in Belgium. Marco Asensio (50′, 61′) netted twice, while Ian Maatsen (57′) also got on the scoresheet to complete the triumph.

The first half saw both sides play openly, with Brugge controlling possession and Villa creating the better chances. However, the game’s key moment came in the 17th minute when Brugge’s Kiryani Sabe received a straight red card, significantly tilting the balance in the home side’s favour.

Aston Villa came close to scoring before half-time, with Youri Tielemans testing Simon Mignolet from a free kick in the 19th minute and Marcus Rashford narrowly missing the target just before the break.

After the interval, the visitors struggled to keep up, and the hosts capitalized. Asensio opened the scoring in the 50th minute, followed by Maatsen’s finish in the 57th minute, which took a slight deflection. Just three minutes later, Asensio struck again to put the tie beyond doubt.

Unai Emery’s side will now face Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals after the French champions eliminated Liverpool in a dramatic penalty shootout. The two legs are scheduled for 8 and 15 April.
