Fiorentina hands Inter worst Serie A defeat since 2019

    Key Takeaways:

  • Fiorentina secured a 3-0 victory over Inter in the resumed Serie A match from December
  • This was Inter’s heaviest Serie A defeat since May 2019 and their second loss of the season
  • The two teams will meet again on Monday in Milan for the reverse fixture

Fiorentina claimed a 3-0 win over Inter in the resumed Serie A clash from the 14th round. The match was initially suspended in early December after Edoardo Bove collapsed in the 16th minute and was rushed to the hospital. Bove later underwent surgery and made a full recovery. The first half saw a cautious approach from both teams, but after the break, Fiorentina took full control, netting three times. Luca Ranieri (59’) and Moise Kean (68’, 89’) were on target for Raffaele Palladino’s side, while Inter had a goal disallowed for offside early on when the match was restarted.

This defeat marked Inter’s second loss of the Serie A season and their heaviest league defeat since May 19, 2019, when they suffered a 4-1 loss to Napoli. The result leaves Inter three points behind Napoli, with both sides now having played the same number of matches. Fiorentina, on the other hand, climbed into the top four with their third consecutive victory, surpassing Lazio and Juventus.

Inter will have the chance to get a revenge as the Nerazzurri welcome Fiorentina to San Siro on Monday in the return fixture.
