The Spanish Royal Football Federation has confirmed a two-year contract extension for national team coach Luis de la Fuente, keeping him in charge through the 2028 European Championship. The decision follows De la Fuente’s success at Euro 2024, where he guided Spain to the title. His previous deal was set to expire after the 2026 World Cup.

De la Fuente is set to earn approximately €2 million annually, with additional bonuses included. Earlier, the 63-year-old coach had expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of an improved contract, an issue that has now been resolved.

De la Fuente’s career with Spain’s national teams began in 2013, managing youth squads and achieving notable success, including the U19 European Championship in 2015 and the U21 European Championship in 2019. He was appointed head coach of the senior team in 2022, succeeding Luis Enrique after Spain’s disappointing World Cup campaign. A year later, De la Fuente led Spain to win the UEFA Nations League, followed by a historic triumph at Euro 2024.

Newly elected RFEF president Rafael Louzán and Luis de la Fuente are expected to address the media during a press conference later today at the national team’s base in Las Rozas.
