Former Borussia Dortmund head coach Nuri Sahin

    Key Takeaways:

  • Borussia Dortmund has dismissed head coach Nuri Sahin after a string of poor results
  • The team suffered four consecutive defeats, including a Champions League loss to Bologna
  • Dortmund is 10th in the Bundesliga, 20 points behind leaders Bayern Munich
  • Despite two consecutive losses, Dortmund is still in 12th place in the Champions League with chances to progress
  • Nico Kovac is the leading candidate to replace Sahin as head coach

Borussia Dortmund has officially parted ways with head coach Nuri Sahin following the team’s fourth consecutive defeat across all competitions. The decision was made shortly after Dortmund’s 2-1 loss to Bologna in the seventh round of the Champions League, where the team squandered a lead and suffered a complete turnaround.

Sahin’s position had been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, with the team struggling to find form in both domestic and European competitions. Borussia Dortmund’s Bundesliga campaign has been disappointing, with the club sitting in 10th place and trailing Bayern Munich by a staggering 20 points. In the Champions League, the club currently occupies 12th place but still has a realistic chance of advancing to the next phase despite two successive defeats in the tournament.

Nuri Sahin was appointed as BVB’s head coach last summer, taking over from Edin Terzić. The club has not wasted time in identifying potential replacements, with the former Bayern Munich manager Nico Kovac emerging as the top candidate for the role.
