Barcelona cruised into the Copa del Rey quarterfinals with a resounding 5-1 victory over Real Betis at Montjuic. The hosts were buoyed by their recent Spanish Super Cup win and carried that momentum into this one-sided encounter. Before kick-off, Barcelona displayed the Super Cup trophy they won in Saudi Arabia last week by trashing Real Madrid 5-2.

The Catalans struck early, with Gavi finding the net in the 3rd minute. Jules Kounde doubled the lead in the 27th minute, and Raphinha added a third goal in the 58th minute, effectively sealing the result. Substitute Ferran Torres made it 4-0 in the 67th minute, followed by Lamine Yamal’s strike in the 75th minute. Despite Barcelona’s dominance, Real Betis managed a consolation goal through Vitor Roque, who converted a penalty in the 84th minute.

Barcelona could have widened the gap further but saw two goals disallowed for narrow offsides and hit the woodwork once. Manager Hansi Flick utilized the opportunity to rest several key players, including Robert Lewandowski, who was not featured, and rotated out stars like Raphinha, Pedri, Gavi, and Yamal during the match.

The quarterfinal draw will take place on January 20, with matches scheduled for February 4-6. Barcelona now turns their attention to La Liga, where they will face Getafe on Saturday.
