Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has sent a strong message to his players about the importance of hard work and high standards, particularly in light of recent job losses at the club. When asked about omitting Garnacho and Rashford from the squad for the game against Manchester City, Amorim said: “When people at the club are losing jobs, we have to put standards really high”. “The way you train is really important”. This suggests that Amorim is taking a tough approach to managing his team, and is not afraid to leave out players if they are not meeting his expectations. Amorim also praised the improvement of Antony, saying “He did a great job improving in that position. He has to defend more but he has the ability to do it and has to do it himself”.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire has expressed his happiness with Amorim’s management style, saying “You can see we have a good structure, a good style of play, the way that he wants us to work. He is tactically very good. He’s proven that he’s a winner. We’re still pretty new”. Maguire also commented on his own contract situation, which is due to expire in June, saying “All the signs are positive at the moment and the chat that I’m having is really positive. I haven’t really thought about it. I’ve still got this year to go with an option in their hands”.

In other news, Manchester United has reached a verbal agreement to sign 17-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego León from Cerro Porteno. The initial fee will be $4m, with add-ons of $1m and a further $3.5m based on the player’s and team’s future performances. León will arrive at Old Trafford in July 2025, and is expected to be a key part of the team’s future plans.
