Hansi Flick calls for improvement as Barcelona aims to end winless streak against Mallorca

Barcelona celebrated their 125th anniversary on Friday, but the very next day lost 1-2 at home to Las Palmas. The defeat extended the Catalan side’s winless streak in La Liga to three games, and the team’s lead at the top of the standings was cut to just a single point by rivals Real Madrid. The club’s manager Hansi Flick addressed the media ahead of Barca’s visit to Mallorca on Tuesday, calling for focus and improvement.

“We are aware that the defeat was our fault. It is in our hands to turn this dynamic around” the German manager said, urging the team to bounce back. He pointed that Barca has the youngest in La Liga, and emphasized the need for mental toughness. “We have to learn to fight for the win” the specialist stated.

Flick highlighted Barcelona’s struggles in front of goal as a key issue, particularly in their recent defeat. “Goals count in football. The other day we had 70% possession and chances, but we didn’t score. Tomorrow it will be important to convert the ones we have” the 59-year old coach said, underlining the importance of efficiency in the final third.

In a positive update, Flick confirmed that Dani Olmo is ready to begin against Mallorca, suggesting potential changes in the starting line-up to reinvigorate the team’s performance. Despite the recent poor run, Flick expressed confidence in his squad, praising their mindset. “It’s amazing to work with my players. Their mentality is impeccable, the atmosphere is great” he remarked. “Everyone is ready to play.” Tuesday’s match against Mallorca represents a crucial opportunity for Barcelona to halt their slump and reaffirm their position at the top of La Liga.
