Chelsea holds Manchester United to a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford

Manchester United and Chelsea battled to a 1-1 draw in a hard-fought Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday. The Red Devils took the lead in the 70th minute when Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty, briefly lifting hopes for a much-needed win amid the club’s worst league start in nearly four decades, with only 12 points from 10 games. However, Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo quickly leveled the score just four minutes later, blasting an impressive long-range volley to secure a point for the Blues.

The result marked a continuation of United’s struggles in the league, keeping them in 13th place, while Chelsea’s point saw them climb to fourth. Ruud van Nistelrooy, United’s interim manager, had aimed to secure consecutive victories following a League Cup win over Leicester but remains focused on the challenging task of improving United’s form. Speaking on his uncertain future at the club with Ruben Amorim’s appointment on the horizon, Van Nistelrooy remarked, “I just want to stay, that’s my focus for the moment.”

In his post-game interview, Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, praised his team’s resilience, saying, “We did the most difficult thing in that stadium against this team, to go down and then come back up.”
