Lamine Yamal wins Kopa trophy, aims for Ballon d’Or in the future

Lamine Yamal marked a memorable week by winning the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the best player under 21, just days after becoming the youngest player to score in El Clasico. Reflecting on the recognition, Yamal expressed his ambition to win the prestigious Ballon d’Or: “I hope to win a Ballon d’Or as soon as possible. It’s something I have in mind, and I’m going all out to get it.”

The week wasn’t without challenges, as Yamal faced racial abuse from some Real Madrid fans during the Clasico. Addressing the incident, he stated, “I’m the one on the pitch, and I’m only focused on the game. The fans saying nonsense doesn’t matter to me.” Both Real Madrid and La Liga condemned the abuse, taking swift action against the offenders.

Rodri, who won the 2024 Ballon d’Or, expressed strong support for Yamal’s future: “Lamine Yamal will win the Ballon d’Or very soon, I’m convinced of it. Keep it up, keep working hard, you’ll get there.” The young Barcelona star now holds not only the Kopa Trophy but also the admiration and backing of top players in his pursuit of football’s highest accolades.
