Manchester City sets new record for longest unbeaten run in the Champions League

Manchester City made history on Wednesday night, setting a new record for the longest unbeaten streak in the history of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League. Their dominant 5-0 victory over Sparta Prague extended their run to 26 games without а defeat – 18 wins and 8 draws, surpassing the previous record of 25 matches held by their local rivals Manchester United achieved between 2007 and 2009.

Erling Haaland was once again at the center of City’s triumph, scoring twice to bring his tally to 44 Champions League goals in just 42 appearances. Remarkably, he has now matched the total number of goals scored by Didier Drogba in the competition, a feat the Ivorian achieved over 92 matches.

With this victory, Manchester City currently sit in third place in the Champions League standings, trailing behind two other Premier League sides, Aston Villa and Liverpool, making the English clubs’ presence felt strongly across the competition.
