Gavi returns as Barcelona thrash Sevilla to stay top of La Liga ahead of crucial week

Barcelona continued their dominant form in La Liga with a resounding 5-1 victory over Sevilla in the 10th round of matches. Robert Lewandowski was once again the star, netting twice and taking his tally to 12 goals in 10 league games. Pedri also scored and Pablo Torre hit a brace to add to Sevilla’s woes as Barca registered their ninth consecutive championship win under Hansi Flick.

The match was particularly special for Barcelona midfielder Gavi, who returned to action after almost a year out due to injury. Gavi had been sidelined for 349 days, and his return marked an emotional moment for the player and fans alike. Speaking after the game, he said, “I’m very happy to return after so long, I had been dreaming about this moment for months. The worst thing has been not being able to be with the team; it had become very difficult to watch the games from outside.”

With 27 points from 10 matches and a formidable 33 goals scored, Barcelona remains at the top of La Liga, flying high under the leadership of Hansi Flick. Up next for Barca is a Champions League encounter with Bayern Munich, a special occasion for both Flick and Robert Lewandowski. Both were integral to the Bavarian side when they last triumphed in the tournament in 2020, famously humiliating Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals. After the meeting with Bayern Munich, another heavy test awaits Barcelona, as the first El Clasico of the season against Real Madrid is scheduled for Saturday, October 26th, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
