Bayer Leverkusen CEO refuses to rule out potential Wirtz transfer to Bayern, recalls missed Bellingham chance

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has refused to promise that Florian Wirtz will stay at the club amid rumors of interest from Bayern Munich. While acknowledging that football is unpredictable, Carro stated, “I can’t promise anything, you never know in football.” This lack of commitment comes as Bayern reportedly target the young talent, further intensifying speculation about his future. Carro also reminded that the club has already been in such situation with defender Jonathan Tah, saying: “We don’t want to sell our best players to direct competitors, of course, it’s what we also told Jonathan Tah last summer.”

Meanwhile, Florian Wirtz’s availability for Leverkusen’s upcoming match against Eintracht Frankfurt remains uncertain. The midfielder picked up an ankle injury during Germany’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands, and although his condition is being monitored closely, Simon Rolfes, the club’s sporting director, clarified, “We didn’t announce that he was out. We announced that he had problems, which everyone could see because he had to come off. That’s why he couldn’t train yesterday. We’ll see how it develops and whether he’s available at the weekend or not.”

Carro recently revealed that Bayer Leverkusen had previously tried to sign Jude Bellingham before his move to Borussia Dortmund, a missed opportunity he still regrets. On the topic, he remarked, “The fact that we didn’t do that back then still annoys me today.”
