Lazio president Lotito has no regrets over failed Greenwood move, takes aim at Roma owners

Lazio President Claudio Lotito made headlines with his recent statements defending striker Taty Castellanos and addressing the failed Mason Greenwood deal. After Castellanos’ strong start to the season with five goals in eight matches, Lotito confidently stated, “They laughed at me when I said Taty Castellanos was a fenomeno. What are they saying now?” This was a clear response to critics who doubted the forward’s potential when Lazio signed him.

Regarding the failed transfer of Mason Greenwood to Lazio in July, Lotito made his position clear: “It’s absolutely not a regret. We don’t want mercenaries. He’s happy at Marseille, Mason made a choice, and that’s fine. We don’t accept mercenaries, we only want those who choose Lazio.”

In a separate comment, Lotito took a subtle jab at AS Roma’s ownership, the Friedkin family, who recently expanded their footballing influence by acquiring other clubs. Lotito remarked, “Buying another foreign club? No, I’ll focus on enhancing Lazio!” positioning himself as more focused on building Lazio’s strength rather than expanding abroad.

These remarks underline Lotito’s confidence in his club’s direction, while also sending messages to critics and rivals alike.
