Botafogo duo rescue Brazil after a slow start in Chile

Brazil secured their fourth victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers with a 2-1 comeback win over Chile, thanks to standout performances from two Botafogo players. Despite falling behind early after a 2nd-minute goal by Chile, Brazil clawed their way back into the match with Igor Jesus heading in the equalizer just before halftime on his international debut.

The game remained tense until the 89th minute, when another Botafogo player, Luiz Henrique, also 23, found the back of the net with a precise curling strike, sealing the win for Brazil. The victory puts Brazil in 4th position in the standings in South America, with 13 points – 6 behind leaders Argentina.

Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes also played a crucial role in Brazil’s victory. He completed the full 90 minutes and was named Player of the Match, thanks to a dominant defensive display. Gabriel won 100% of his 8 aerial duels, made 4 clearances, and added 2 important tackles to keep Brazil secure at the back, proving instrumental in maintaining the lead in the final moments of the match.
