Guardiola admits he was worried about Ederson leaving, Italian legend reveals he snubbed City back in 2017

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has spoken about the uncertainty surrounding Ederson during the summer transfer window. The Brazilian goalkeeper, a key figure in City’s recent successes, was subject to transfer speculation, linked mainly to Saudi clubs, but ultimately, the deal did not materialize.

“We didn’t want Ederson to leave in the summer. A real offer didn’t come!” Guardiola explained. “They made an offer, but the keeper for the team that won four Premier Leagues in a row has a price. Otherwise, he can’t leave! And that’s what basically happened.”

Despite the offer, Guardiola admitted his concerns: “Of course, I was worried about Ederson leaving! He’s an important figure in our team, and we’re lucky to have him. Hopefully, he’s happy. Always you prepare, you never know what happens, whether players want to leave or not.”

Meanwhile, former Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci revealed that he was on Guardiola’s shortlist back in 2017 when he left Juventus. “Both Manchester City and PSG wanted me. They also sent a financial proposal, but I wanted to stay in Italy and joined AC Milan instead” Bonucci shared. He also mentioned that Guardiola had previously sought him in the summer of 2016.
