Eddie Howe confirms Isak is a doubt for City clash, Newcastle advances in talks for Anthony Gordon’s extension

Eddie Howe is gearing up for a tough challenge as Newcastle United prepares to host Manchester City at St. James’ Park tomorrow. In what promises to be an exciting clash, Newcastle will need to be at their best against the reigning Premier League champions and current leaders. Howe acknowledged the difficulty of the task but emphasized his team’s need to bring an attacking mindset to the game.

“Everyone will be highly motivated, and we need to make sure we make it as difficult as we can for our opponents” Howe said. “We have to carry a threat, we have to be an attacking force in the game. We must be that attacking force, not forgetting what we are good at. Our challenge is to be competitive and try and impose ourselves on the game.”

Despite the anticipation surrounding the match, Howe also revealed that Alexander Isak is a doubt due to a toe injury. “Alex is still nursing his toe injury. He will be a doubt for tomorrow. He hasn’t trained yet, so we will have to make a decision on him” the Magpies manager confirmed. Isak’s absence would be a blow to the team, that currently sits in 6th position in the Premier League with 10 points from the opening five matches.

In other news, Newcastle is progressing in talks to extend the contract of Anthony Gordon. The club is optimistic about securing a deal soon, despite interest from other clubs, most notably Liverpool, who made approaches for Gordon in the summer. There are still a few details to finalize, but Newcastle are hopeful that the extension will be agreed upon in the near future.
