Luis Enrique takes a jab at Xavi’s Barcelona, jokes about giving up salary for media silence

Luis Enrique made headlines with his comments regarding his relationship with the press. In a recent statement, the PSG manager humourously suggested he would be willing to give up a significant part of his salary to avoid media obligations. “I’ve always had a good relationship with the press… but if 25 to 50% of my salary is taken away and I no longer speak to the press, I sign. I sign straight away!” Enrique said, lightheartedly addressing his sometimes tense interactions with the media.

In addition to his remarks about the press, Enrique shared his thoughts on Xavi’s Barcelona in his new documentary. He was critical of their style of play, stating, “They were not a dominant team, and they were not a good defensive team. There is no defensive quality. Ter Stegen has broken the record for long passes. They played like Eibar.” Luis Enrique and Xavi share a successful history at Barcelona, with Enrique as the manager and Xavi as the team’s captain when the club last lifted the Champions League trophy in 2015. Under Enrique’s leadership, Barcа won a historic treble that season, with Xavi playing a key role in midfield before eventually leaving the club.

Meanwhile, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent, Enzo Raiola, has spoken about the goalkeeper’s future at PSG. Raiola revealed that talks have begun regarding a new contract for Donnarumma, with hopes of establishing him as a long-term figure at the club. “He could become a legend of PSG. We’ve started talks over a new deal” the agent said. “On our side, we’d love to stay at PSG.”
