Arsenal wins the North London derby as Arteta makes history

Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory in the North London Derby against Tottenham on Sunday, with defender Gabriel scoring the all important goal. His close-range header in the 64th minute, following a precise corner kick from Bukayo Saka, proved to be the difference. The Gunners’ victory marked a historic moment for them, as they recorded three successive away league wins at Tottenham for the first time since 1988. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s form continues to dip, as they have now accumulated just four points in their opening four Premier League matches.

After the match, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou reflected on the game, admitting his team had failed to capitalize on their dominance. “I think I’ve said my piece. For the most part, we controlled the game today, had good territory and possession” Postecoglou said. “But we didn’t make the most of it, and we got punished.” When asked about Spurs’ prospects of winning a trophy this season, Postecoglou offered a confident but measured response: “I don’t usually win things, I ALWAYS win things in my second year.”

For Arsenal, Mikel Arteta addressed concerns over the injury list post-match. The manager provided updates on Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard. “Saka was not able to continue today, I don’t know exactly what it is, but he could not continue” Arteta explained. On Odegaard’s situation, the Spaniard said, “We still have to wait and see, it’s not clear yet.”

The win also added to Arteta’s personal achievements as Arsenal manager. He became the only manager in Arsenal’s Premier League history to win three consecutive away games against the Spurs. Arteta also took the time to praise Jurrien Timber, who had an impressive performance despite a long spell in the injury treatroom. “Jurrien Timber was just unbelievable in the North London Derby” the Arsenal manager said. “He’s been a year out, he hasn’t played 90 minutes at all, but he managed to do it for the team. I don’t know without a pre-season, I don’t know how many minutes he’s played!”
