Aston Villa’s sporting director Monchi: No less than 40 clubs wanted Jhon Duran

Aston Villa’s sporting director Monchi has expressed great confidence in the potential of young striker Jhon Durán. According to Monchi, the young Colombian attracted interest from more than 40 clubs during the summer transfer window. Despite Durán’s desire to play more regularly, Monchi and manager Unai Emery firmly believe that the striker can develop into one of the best strikers in the world.

Monchi stated: “If there is a club that really thinks Durán can become one of the top strikers in the world then that one club is Aston Villa, and that one manager is Unai Emery.” He also addressed the interest from other clubs, saying, “There are no fewer than 40 clubs who want Durán, but Emery is very confident with Jhon. He thinks Durán can become one of the best strikers in the world.”

The young striker had previously expressed a desire to leave in search of more playing time. Monchi acknowledged this but assured that the situation has improved: “He wanted to leave, yes. Just because he wants to play, normal. But now it’s all good, he’s happy.”

Despite not starting for Aston Villa this season, Durán has made a big impact. He’s already scored two goals in three substitute appearances. On Saturday, he entered the field in the 72nd minute during Colombia’s match against Peru, providing a crucial assist to Luis Diaz for the final 1-1 scoreline.
