Roma pushing to complete Hummels signing today

AS Roma have sold Chris Smalling to Al Fayha in the Saudi Pro League. The English defender, who had been with Roma since 2019, has signed a two-year deal with Al Fayha, who have been eager to bring him into their squad.

With Smalling’s departure confirmed, Roma are now working to secure Mats Hummels to bolster their defence. The club has sent an improved contract offer to the veteran German defender and scheduled medical tests as part of the final steps to complete the signing. Hummels is expected to arrive in Rome today on a flight to Fiumicino Airport. After that he is expected to undergo his medical examination and, if all goes well, to sign a one-year contract worth 2.5 million euros by the end of the day. Roma are keen to finalize the deal quickly to include Hummels in their UEFA list, which must be submitted today.

In addition to targeting Hummels, Roma have already signed former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso on a free transfer. Manager Daniele De Rossi aims to strengthen Roma’s backline for the upcoming season by adding experienced defenders to his squad.
