Martin Zubimendi after failed move to Liverpool: “Real is my life”

Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has spoken out about his recent decision to turn down a move to Liverpool, citing his deep personal connection to his current club. In an interview with Marca, Zubimendi explained that he felt no external pressure in making his choice: “I didn’t have any pressure from my close circle. My friends are clear that whatever I decide, it will be the best. There is no pressure at all.”

Zubimendi also expressed his profound attachment to Real Sociedad, saying, “For me, Real is my life. I believe I have spent half of my life there. A large part of who I am is because of Real Sociedad. It is my life.”

Despite Liverpool’s keen interest in signing Zubimendi, the midfielder chose to stay at Real Sociedad. The English club made several attempts to secure his transfer, offering a substantial fee that matched the player’s release clause, but Zubimendi declined the move. Reports suggested that Liverpool viewed him as an ideal addition to their midfield, but Zubimendi’s loyalty to his boyhood club proved stronger than the allure of playing in the Premier League.
