Nico Jackson’s goal secures just a point for Chelsea; Club to reward him with contract extension

Chelsea played to a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League’s third round on Sunday. The result leaves the Blues in 11th position in the standings with 4 points. The game saw some dramatic moments, including an injury to Malo Gusto, who was substituted in the 74th minute for Mykhaylo Mudryk. The French wing-back is reported to have suffered a muscle injury, and Chelsea fans will be hoping for a swift recovery.

Manager Enzo Maresca provided an update on Gusto’s condition after the match, stating, “Malo Gusto has suffered a muscle injury, we hope he feels better soon.” On the transfer front, Maresca addressed the absence of a new striker signing in the final days of the transfer window. When asked about the club’s pursuit of a striker like Victor Osimhen, Maresca commented, “We want players, but we wanted a player that we decide it has to be on our conditions. If a player is not here, then it was not.” When questioned about the possibility of signing a new striker in January, he added, “We will see.”

Despite the lack of a new striker, Chelsea is set to secure one of their key players for the future. Maresca confirmed that the club plans to extend Nicolas Jackson’s contract until June 2033. Jackson has been a vital part of the team, and his performance against Crystal Palace showcased his value as he scored his 16th non-penalty goal in 2024.
