Atletico Madrid are exploring a potential season-long loan deal for Manchester City’s midfielder Matheus Nunes as the transfer window approaches its final days. The Spanish club is keen to bring in a new midfielder on loan to bolster their squad, especially after sending Arthur Vermeeren on loan to RB Leipzig just two days ago.

Diego Simeone, Atletico’s head coach, hinted at the possibility of another arrival before the window closes, indicating the club’s intent to strengthen their midfield options. Despite their interest in Nunes, Atletico Madrid have not yet made a formal approach to Manchester City for the 25-year-old Portugal international. Atletico Madrid have already added one player from the Premier League this transfer window, signing former Chelsea captain Connor Gallagher.
Nunes’ place in the Manchester City squad has come under heavy scrutiny following the unexpected return of club legend and former captain Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona. With Gundogan back in the fold, Nunes’ opportunities for playing time could be limited, making a loan move a viable option for both the player and Manchester City.
Manchester City are aware of Atletico Madrid’s interest but have not received any offers for Nunes and have not made a decision regarding his availability. Nunes joined Manchester City last summer from Wolverhampton in a €62 million deal. During the 2023/24 season, he made 31 appearances across all competitions, providing 5 assists but not scoring any goals.
