Liverpool emerge as front-runners to land Federico Chiesa

Liverpool have made an initial approach for Federico Chiesa as a potential late addition to their squad before the transfer window closes. The Italian winger is currently available on the market, with Juventus eager to find a solution for his departure. Liverpool contacted Juventus yesterday to explore the conditions of a potential deal, as Chiesa has expressed a strong interest in a move to the Premier League.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Chiesa has given his full approval to join Liverpool after initial discussions. The player is reportedly excited about the prospect of playing in England, and personal contract terms are not expected to be a stumbling block. Juventus, keen to part ways with Chiesa, have set an asking price of around €15 million. Chiesa has also been linked with a move to Barcelona. However, the Catalan club’s ongoing financial struggles have prevented them from registering new players, making a transfer to Liverpool a more viable option at this stage.

The 26-year-old winger played a crucial role in Italy’s Euro 2020 triumph, showcasing his talents on the international stage. However, since then, Chiesa has faced a series of injuries and reduced playing time, prompting Juventus to consider offloading him as they restructure their squad.

In addition to their pursuit of Chiesa, Liverpool have also secured Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. The 23-year-old passed his medical tests yesterday, and an agreement has been reached on a €35 million package, consisting of a €30 million fixed fee and €5 million in easy add-ons. The contract will be valid for the next six years, and includes a 10% future sell-on clause for Valencia. While the deal is set to be signed soon, Mamardashvili will remain with Valencia for the current season and join Liverpool in July 2025 as planned.
