Chelsea, Manchester City, and Atletico Madrid in transfer limbo with complex three-team trade

Atlético Madrid are on the verge of securing Julián Álvarez from Manchester City. The Spanish giants have offered over €75 million for the Argentine forward, aiming to finalize the transfer today. Atlético has been targeting Álvarez for several months, viewing him as a key addition to bolster their attacking options.

Still at 24 years of age, Álvarez has had a remarkable career. With City, he contributed significantly to their Premier League and Champions League victories, demonstrating versatility and goal-scoring prowess. On the international stage, Álvarez has been instrumental for Argentina, helping them secure the 2022 World Cup and Copa America 2024 titles and earning a reputation as one of the most promising forwards in world football.

Atleti have found additional finances from selling a promising forward. Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a €40 million deal for Atlético’s 20-year-old striker Samu Omorodion. Omorodion made 36 appearances for Atlético Madrid last season, scoring 9 goals and providing 1 assist. Currently with Spain’s Olympic team in Paris, he has helped La Roja reach the final, where they will face hosts France on Friday.

Additionally, Conor Gallagher is set to travel to Madrid today as his transfer to Atlético Madrid nears completion. The English midfielder has been a target for Atlético, who have been keen to strengthen their midfield with his dynamic playstyle and experience.
